About the course

Our Construction Center is the perfect place for you to develop your skills and knowledge of the carpentry and joinery trades. Fully equipped workshops with industry standard equipment, combined with tutors with a wealth of industry experience, will help you get to grips with this fast-paced industry. The Level 1 qualification provides an introduction to the field of carpentry and joinery, covering the basic principles through a combination of practical and classroom work. The practical work develops the practical skills required for the subject, the classroom work develops the knowledge required to succeed in the subject. Mathematics is a crucial part of the construction industry, especially in the field of carpentry, and therefore mathematics is embedded in the course. The course provides you with the basis to progress to other wood-related courses, for example carpentry or banking.

What do I need?

There are no formal entry criteria for this course, but if you have not yet completed your Maths and English at Grade 4, you will study for these alongside your course. Employers are looking for construction workers who are proficient in math and English. It is important for your future that you do everything you can to achieve this.

Where can I go further?

You can progress to a Level 2 course in carpentry and joinery or find an entry-level job.
